Thonet Horizontal Slat-Back Café Chair

Authentic European craftsmanship meets mid-century utility in these rare genuine Thonet horizontal slat-back dining chairs. The ebonised black paint finish is currently hiding the solid beech wood underneath. Five contoured horizontal timber slats form a supportive, enveloping backrest, sitting atop the iconic steam-bent timber subframe that made the brand a global icon.

Solid, structurally sound, and free of structural wobble, these seats bring immediate vintage credibility to modern spaces. They bridge the gap between industrial grit and classic European minimalism perfectly.

Thonet
Michael Thonet revolutionised furniture manufacturing in the 19th century by perfecting the process of steam-bending solid timber. Operating out of historic European factories, the brand established a blueprint for mass production without sacrificing organic elegance. Architects like Le Corbusier championed these designs for their lightweight strength and minimalist form. Today, genuine Thonet pieces remain highly collectible investments, anchoring high-end hospitality venues and residential dining rooms across Australia.
RRP (New): $410 AUD per chair
